Why Children’s Day Matters: Lessons in Growth, Happiness and Learning

For us at VIS Sector 10 Dwarka, Children's Day is more than just an annual date on the calendar; it serves as a reminder of why we teach, why we care, and that education is so much more than test scores in the classroom. Each year, November 14 is the day we celebrate learners, not just for their achievement, but for their growth as human beings.

This is what Children's Day means to us and ultimately what it teaches us about growth, happiness, and true learning for everyone.

Recognising Childhood and Imagination

Childhood is a time of magic. It is a time in which every question is possible, where imagination has no boundaries, and where dreams are not artificially constrained. Children's Day is the day we celebrate that spirit. At VIS, we remind our learners that the world is a canvas and their imagination is the brush and paint.

However, it is also to gently remind us as educators and parents to make sure we are providing time for play, creativity, and discovery in every school schedule. Rather than always asking for learning to be structured, we allow learning to be imagination first. Our learners do not learn for the intent of being able to get good marks, or pass the test- they learn to think and imagine a possible solution.

Valuing Every Learner’s Journey

Every learner at VIS is unique. Some are recognised for scholastic achievement, some for athletic skill or artistic ability, and some for their friendships and leadership. Children’s Day is a day to celebrate that uniqueness. It is a day to ask ourselves whether we are celebrating grades or we are celebrating personal growth, kindness and effort.

At VIS, we believe that true development comes from learners first and foremost feeling noticed and acknowledged for who they are. Not just for their accomplishments, but in acknowledgement of their effort, ideas and personality. That’s why we’ve built mentorship, feedback and personal check-ins into the VIS experience. Children’s Day is a reminder that development is not linear, it is personal, and it is an important part of this day.

Building Happiness Through Connection

Happiness develops through relationships. On this day, we create shared moments that expand relationships through play, shared reflection, collaborative art and storytelling.

When learners are laughing, working together and sharing an experience, they begin to realise that school can be a place of happiness and comfort. It is through these deliberate, rich experiences that a positive school culture develops, where relationships are celebrated just as much as learning.

Reinforcing the Love for Learning

Learning should always be fun and lifelong. Children's Day presents another opportunity to affirm this idea again. Through unique workshops, performances, and fun educational challenges, we promote experiences that are exciting and playful.

Children's Day, for VIS learners, is a reminder that mistakes are part of the learning process. When they engage in a new experience, whether it be a dance, a science experiment, or a play, they discover that not succeeding at the first try is not a failure. It is part of the growth. This invites risk-taking, engagement, and inquiry into their own curiosity.

Instilling Important Values

Children's Day also serves as an opportunity to address the values of our community. Courage, compassion, community, and creativity.

Learners have an opportunity, through dialogue, gratitude circles, and community-based activities, to think of responsibility and kindness. We want them to understand that being empathic, curious and courageous is equally as important as testing well.

Growing Together

As we celebrate Children's Day at VIS Sector 10, Dwarka, we look not to who our learners are today but who they can be. We hope they grow as bold and confident learners who are imaginative and possess a strong sense of purpose.

This is why Children’s Day matters. It reminds us that education is not only about building knowledge. It is about nurturing humanity!
